About Car Bath Three
Self service Car wash
Car Bath Three is a self-service car wash in Costa Mesa, California. It is listed at 2698 Bristol St, Costa Mesa, CA 92626, which places it among the local businesses of Costa Mesa that residents and visitors turn to when they need this kind of service close by.
Car washes in the United States come in four main formats: the express tunnel, where you stay in the car while a conveyor pulls it through brushes or high-pressure jets; the full-service wash, where attendants vacuum and wipe down the interior after the tunnel; the self-service bay with a coin or card-operated pressure wand, foam brush and vacuums; and the hand wash, where a crew washes and dries the car by hand. Touchless tunnels skip the cloth brushes entirely and rely on chemicals and water pressure, which is gentler on paint but less effective on heavy grime. Most express chains sell an unlimited monthly plan, usually priced at two to three single washes, that is only worth it if you wash more than twice a month. Gas stations often bundle a discounted wash with a fill-up.

Costa Mesa is in California, on the West Coast, where the climate ranges from foggy coast to hot inland valleys, wildfire season can affect air quality in late summer, and traffic is the main thing to plan around. Getting around Costa Mesa is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across California's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

This is my favorite self wash. It's fairly well maintained and they take credit cards. Most others make you mess about with quarters. Like most car washes it gets very busy on weekends. The earlier you can get there the better.

There are places you go because they’re good… and places you go because they exist. Car Bath III falls squarely into the second category. You pull in, and there’s no illusion here—no glossy promise of sparkle or pride. This isn’t the kind of place that cares if your car leaves looking like it just rolled off a showroom floor. It barely seems to care if itself is holding together. The ground tells the story first: worn, grimy, unapologetically neglected. You don’t so much arrive as you accept your fate. The wash bays? Functional, in the most technical sense of the word. You feed the machine, you get water—pressure strong enough to blast the obvious sins off your vehicle. Dirt, mud, the casual evidence of living your life—that part, it handles. No frills, no finesse. Just a transactional rinse with all the emotional depth of a vending machine. But then comes the vacuum. Ah, the vacuum—where hope goes to die for a dollar. You drop your money in, expecting at least the bare minimum of suction, and instead you’re met with the kind of disappointment usually reserved for airport food at midnight. Dead machines. No warning. No apology. Just silence and the quiet realization that your do

It’s a very compact car wash. I have a Honda Fit, and honestly, there isn’t much space to move around the car comfortably while washing it. There’s no brush for the wheels, but they do have an air gun you can use to blow water off the car. However, it’s pretty weak - you have to hold it in one spot for a while before the water starts running off. So, it works, but if it were more powerful, it would be much better. I spent about 18 minutes washing my car, and it cost me $20. When I went on Friday around 5 p.m., all the spots were already taken, and there was even a small line forming after me.

Extremely run down. I only give it 2 stars because the location is near my house and convenient. The change machine by the vacuums doesn’t work. I go here semi regularly and now 2 of the vacuum bays are down. I did notice today another change machine but I had quarters so I didn’t check it. Otherwise you’re SOL if you need quarters. I bring my own soap and towels so this is basically a spot I go to use the water spray. $1 for the vacuum and it’s not even enough time to get all 4 floor mat areas.

Overall… not a bad place. Location is a bit weird though. Car wash is on Bristol St and the end of Newport Blvd. I was there on Friday around 8 am. Not busy. 3 bays were empty. $5 will get you 10 minutes. There is no wheel brush available. Just the foam brush, a pressure washer, could not use the high pressure soap, maybe I just didn’t know if I was holding the correct spray gun. The bays are a good size for small and compact vehicles, I was washing my ‘21 RAV4 and the space was very limited trying to go around the vehicle with the spray gun trying to get the wheels clean. This wash is not the cleanest, but it’s not bad. You go in, get things done, and get out. I works as designed. Tip: The exit came get hectic if someone wants to make a left right off the wash bays. It will be faster just to make a right and then make a U-turn on the next light (Baker St). Don’t hold up traffic, there is not much space.
